What is Black Soap?
West African Black Soap has been used for many centuries, ours is made by taking sun-dried cocoa pods and plantain skins and roasting them to produce ash, which is then slow-cooked with palm oil and shea butter to make the soap base.
The resulting soap is packed with bacteria-fighting oils and nutrients, with excellent deep cleansing and nourishing properties while still gentle enough for all skin types.
Deep Cleansing: Known for its deep cleansing power, African black soap effectively removes dirt, oil, and impurities, leaving your skin feeling fresh and clean. It’s especially good for oily or acne-prone skin.
Natural Ingredients & Nutrient-Rich: African black soap is loved for its all-natural composition. Raw unrefined natural shea and oils provide vitamin A and vitamin E providing antioxidant properties. Also it’s 100% free from sulfates, petroleum, and parabens, and it’s gentle on your skin.
Antibacterial: Studies show that African black soap’s natural antibacterial ingredients work to remove certain harmful bacteria, dirt and other impurities. The natural sulfur in the ash is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory.
Exfoliates: The natural ash content in black soap gently exfoliates, clearing away dead skin cells and promoting a smoother, more even texture. And the plantain skins and leaves found in African black soap are naturally high in vitamin A, which can brighten your complexion.
How is Our Soap Different?
Quality Black Soap
Combined Soaps
Improved Texture & Solubility
With Willowbark Extract & Sage
All of the ingredients we use have specific beneficial properties which combine to make an extra effective nutrient rich soap that deeply benefits the skin.
For our soap base in addition to the palm oil & shea butter we add coconut & avocado oils to the saponifying process, to create good cleaning properties and improve it’s ability to create a quick lather. These ash soaps are then combined with liquid cleansers and salts to improve the effectiveness and rinse. We then add willow tree bark extract for a natural source of salicylic acid and for it's antioxidant, anti-inflammitory and skin health improving properties.
Why Do We Add Willow Bark Extract To Our Soap?
For Exfoliation
As a natural source of salicylic acid, willow bark acts as a potent exfoliant. This acid is renowned for its ability to break down dead skin cells, unclog pores, and stimulate cellular turnover. Regular application of willow bark-based products can give your skin a smoother texture, a more radiant complexion, and a significant reduction in the appearance of acne scars.
Anti-Inflammatory and Antioxidant Properties
Willow bark also shines as an anti-inflammatory agent. Its bioactive compounds can reduce redness, soothe irritations, and alleviate discomfort caused by conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. Additionally, its antioxidant benefits help neutralize harmful free radicals, protecting your skin from premature aging.
Soothing Acne with Willow Bark
Its astringent effect, combined with its salicylic acid content, makes willow bark an efficient solution for acne-prone skin. It minimizes the size of enlarged pores, regulates oil production, and promotes a clearer complexion. Willow bark helps reduce the redness and swelling associated with acne, soothing and healing the skin.
Reducing Wrinkles and Promoting Skin Rejuvenation
The exfoliating action of willow bark reveals fresh, younger-looking skin, but it doesn't stop there. Willow bark is also known for its skin-rejuvenating effects. It boosts collagen production, the essential protein for maintaining skin elasticity and reducing the appearance of wrinkles.
Protection from Environmental Damage
Lastly, willow bark offers a shield against environmental aggressors. It strengthens the skin's natural defense mechanisms, allowing it to combat UV radiation, pollution, and other harmful factors that contribute to skin aging and damage.
